Explorers

14-18 years old

Explorers Logo

Explorers are a go-getting group of young people aged 14 to 18. Together, they make up the fourth section of the Scouts. Week in and week out, they gather in groups called Units to try new things, make new friends and conquer the small task of changing the world.

Being an Explorer is all about discovering the world on your own terms and making the most of what you have, wherever and whoever you are.

Alongside your new friends, you’ll master the skills that will make you feel stronger and happier in the long run, and try things you’d never get the chance to do at home or at school.

Explorers are run by Basingstoke West District Scouts and are not part of Hatch Warren Scout Group.

Pafupi Explorers

Hatch Warren is home to Pafupi Explorers and while they operate as a separate entity as part of Basingstoke West District Scouts – we have close ties with the Unit.

Explorer Scout Promise & Motto

Explorer Scout Promise

The Scout Association is an inclusive and values based Movement which supports its Members to engage with spirituality in an exciting and meaningful way.

Membership is open to all those individuals who share our fundamental values, and are willing to make a commitment to them, expressed by the Promise and Law.

There are a number of variations of the Beaver Scout Promise to reflect the range of faiths, beliefs and attitudes, and nationalities, in the UK within Scouting.

On my honour,
I promise that I will do my best,
To do my duty to God and to the King,
To help other people,
And to keep the Scout Law.

Makaton is a language programme that uses symbols, signs, and speech to enable people to communicate, while encouraging language development. It’s especially used by people who find communication difficult, for example, some people with learning disabilities.

Please note that this resource still references The Queen. Updated versions referencing The King will be available soon.

Explorer Scout Uniform

What to wear

Explorers get their own set of uniform to wear during meetings and on trips away. This consists of a beige shirt or blouse with their badges sewn on, which they pair with their Unit scarf.

Alongside their shirts, Explorers might wear the accompanying blue uniform trousers or skirt, or they might save their uniform bottoms to wear for special occasions like awards ceremonies and public events – choosing to wear something more casual with their shirt during the week. Optional accessories such as hats, hoodies, are also available.

Badge positions

This diagram shows the location for all badges on the Explorer Scout shirt. If you have any questions, please contact a leader.
